AUFGANG (Infiné / F) - Live
Classic Meets Electronic
One pianos and a drum kit, it is not frankly the ideal configuration to make the mass public dance. Nevertheless, Rummy Khalifé and Aymeric Westrich - educed to a duo with the recent departure of Francesco Tristano - prove the opposite with a crazy talent.
Their first album, released in 2009, had settled the formula, the latest one, Istiklaliya (April 2013), makes it effective as ever. Filled with multiple nuances – from contemporary music to electro and post-rock – this album reflects exalting audacity and playful freedom, and can be compared to Battles, another kamikaze band that emerged in the last few years or Brand, Brauer & Frick. Dramatic, deep, without forgetting to be pulsative and given rhythm, the music of Aufgang proves that the electronic music is now rather mature to take place of electronic instruments! The unusual association enters classical music and beats electronics of Aufgang made sparks with the public, which did not expect from it so much to dance. A really innovative concept for the real spectacular performance. Ask the question to those who saw them on stage these last months: they still transpire.
